In the capital city of Catalonia Gaudí created the most beautiful and extraordinary buildings, changing completely the architecture of the city.

I planned an itinerary of the city following in the footsteps of Antoni Gaudí.

Casa Batlló

This is one of the most famous Gaudí’s works.
It was Joseph Batllo’s property, a Spanish textile industrialist, who in 1904 commissioned Gaudí to restore this palace in order to make it a spectacular residence. Gaudí created a real masterpiece, changing radically the original building.
You can’t miss the atrium, the staircase, the noble floor and the terrace on the rooftop.

The Gaudí Exhibition Center

The first real museum completely dedicated to Gaudí.
The sections of the museum will accompany visitors through the various phases of the creative process of the architect, from the moment of inspiration to the materials used for his works.

The Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Familia is the symbol of the city of Barcelona and is the most spectacular project left by Gaudí, who dedicated to its construction most of his life.
The building has become the main attraction of Barcelona and attracts visitors from all over the world.
This amazing church is still under construction, like it happened in last centuries for greatest projects such as the Duomo of Milan (Milan Cathedral) and St. Peter’s Basilica.
It seems that the works will be finished in 2026.

Casa Milà

This building, popularly known as La Pedrera, is a huge 9-storey house, and its external façade looks like an open-air quarry.
It’s Gaudí’s last work before he dedicated himself exclusively to the Sagrada Familia.

Casa Vicens

Casa Vicens is the first important work realized by Gaudí, who mixed Gothic elements with Islamic elements in the interior.

Casa Calvet

Casa Calvet was built to serve both as a commercial property and a residence for the Calvet family, textile manufacturers.
Among all Gaudí’s works this is the most conventional and less experimental, but the columns at the entrance resemble stacked bobbins which are a homage to the family business of textile manufacture.

Park Güell

This park is a must-see. From here you can enjoy an amazing view of the city, and here Gaudí created a series of coloured and sinuous works resembling fairy tales and an imaginary world.
You’ll admire a giant mosaic salamander, a covered walkway, the hypostyle room, the serpentine bench which are a triumph of colours, the small houses whose roofs look like marzipan, and the Gaudí House Museum, where the architect lived more than 20 years.

Palau Güell

The parabolic arch is the hallmark of Gaudí’s works, and the ceiling of Palau Güell is the perfect place to admire this feature.

Plaça Reial

In this square you must look at the street lamps around the central fountain.
It was Gaudí’s first commission.
