COLLATERAL EVENTS BIENNALE ARTE 2022 AND BEYOND: WHAT TO SEE AND WHERE TO GO

There are 30 collateral events of the Biennale Arte 2022 admitted by the curator Cecilia Alemani and you can find them all in the post I dedicated to Biennale Venezia 2022, tickets, pavilions, collateral events.
The problem is which ones to see first, where to start and above all whether it is worth visiting them all. Also because during the Venice Biennale there are collateral events to see and a myriad of other interesting independent exhibitions.

To help you choose, I have written this post, which I hope will act as a compass on your journey to discover the collateral events of the 2022 Biennale and the independent events.

Collateral events Biennale Arte 2022

A list of the Biennale Arte 2022 collateral events and independent exhibitions I have seen and enjoyed.
The order of the events follows exactly the route I took, so this list is not a ranking of liking but a chronicle of what I saw from the first to the last event.

Outside the Biennale, you will have to walk around the city and you will end up not wanting to take a vaporetto, because you don’t feel like walking anymore, or to enter one of the many museums you will meet on your way.
I suggest you to have a look at the post Venice Museums Tickets, Cards and Useful Links  utili where you will find all the information you need to book tickets for the most beautiful museums and to use public transport.

CHUTZPAH

CHUTZPAH
A tent that is not a tent, animals that are not animals
Curated by Gabi Scardi

CHUTZPAH, a word from the Yiddish tradition, indicating the boldness of someone who believes in himself excessively, which in Anglo-Saxon language acquires a positive value, referring to personal confidence, to the reckless drive that allows one to break out of the established patterns and perform actions considered impossible.
The story of the art collective Atelier dell’Errore (AdE BIG) is in itself a Chutzpah.
Founded in 2002 in Reggio Emilia, by Luca Santiago Mora, with the intention of putting artistic practice at the service of child neuropsychiatry, as of 2015, the children involved in the project and now grown up, became part of AdE BIG. An art collective and social enterprise hosted within the Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia.
AdE’s founding principle is to attribute value to limitations, to re-evaluate what we normally tend to push away, try to neutralise or correct as an error, even at the cost of forcing norms and habits of thought.

Louise Nevelson gained international recognition by exhibiting her monochrome sculptures in the American Pavilion of the 1962 Biennial.
This exhibition traces a chronological history of her life and work, celebrating the artist’s contribution to art history.

In the 14th-century Palazzo Donà you can visit the project curated by Alfonso de la Torre, conceived after months of work with a group of young artists who look to the Altamira cave paintings to interpret our time.
The group of four young artists (Ruth Gómez, Nuria Mora, Daniel Muñoz and Sixe
Paredes), have worked on the concept of space, on architectural supports and have used various languages such as painting or drawing.
The common element is the desire to share their vision of the world through art, and the exhibition can be defined as a set of micro-narratives.

Angels Listening
Rachel Lee Hovnanian
Curated by Annalisa Bugliani

Angels Listening is a performance installation intended to prompt the viewer to reflect on their own existence and the world around them.
It is a meditative space in which the heads of seven angels, large-scale white bronze sculptures, challenge visitors to reveal their innermost secrets and thoughts.
The angels have been silenced by artist  Rachel Lee Hovnanian, who has placed two pieces of tape over their mouths, preventing them from revealing the secrets that each visitor will write on a piece of paper placed on a confessional and place, before leaving, on an urn.
All the secrets placed in the box will then be placed on sheets placed in the garden adjacent to the pavilion.

“Angels Listening offers a space that transforms hundreds of silenced voices into a chorus of confessions, demonstrating their liberation associated with catharsis and the sanctity of meditative environments in moments of shared isolation.”- Rachel Lee Hovnanian
