Spain is a culturally rich country nation and not everybody knows that there are many free museums in Madrid.
The museums have created this opportunity to allow Spanish citizens or regular tourists to admire their huge collections in many ways.
In fact, the admission is free on specific days or at specific times, so you can visit the museums and admire only one work or focus only on the works of a particular artist or historical period.
So here are the list of free museums in Madrid and useful information not to miss out this opportunity.

Il Museo del Prado

FREE MUSEUMS IN MADRID EVERY DAY

The Prado Museum is one of the world’s most important picture galleries and houses some of the most famous masterpieces of art history, from El Greco to Velázquez, from Goya to Rembrandt just to mention a few.
Free admission – from Monday to Saturday from 6 pm to 8 pm; on Sundays and public holidays from 5 pm to 7 pm.

The Reina Sofía Museum is an international point of reference for modern and contemporary art and houses Guernica, Picasso’s most important work.
Free admission – from Wednesday to Sunday from 7 pm to 9 pm; on Mondays from 7 pm to 9 pm. Free tickets during these hours and days are just for individual public.
Free all day in April 18, May 18 and October 12, December 6.

The Lázaro Galdiano Museum hosts an art collection including works by Goya, El Greco, Zurbarán and Bosch, in addition to bronzes, ceramics, crystals and wonderful art objects.
Free admission – from Monday to Saturday from 3.30 pm and on Sundays from 2 pm.

FREE MUSEUMS IN MADRID ON SPECIFIC DAYS

The Thyssen-Bornemisza is one of the most important private collections of paintings in the world.
Free admission – on Mondays from 12 am to 4 pm.

The Sorolla Museum was the residence of painter Joaquín Sorolla and is now a museum housing some of his masterpieces.
Free admission – on Saturdays from 2 pm to 8 pm; on Sundays from 10 am to 1 pm.

The majestic Royal Palace of Madrid houses a one-of-a-kind collection of paintings, sculpture, weapons and decorative arts.
Free admission – from Monday to Thursday form 6 pm to 8 pm only for European and South American citizens.

The Royal palace of El Pardo was built in the 16^thcentury during the reign of Philip II, on a former small castle built by Charles I in the 15^thcentury.
Free admission – on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 pm to 8 pm only for European and South American citizens.

The Cerralbo Museum was the residence of the Marquises of Cerralbo, who were also great collectors and housed there their art collections, too.
Free admission – on Thursday from 5 pm to 8 pm; on Saturdays from 2 pm to 3 pm and on Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm.
