Monsters, myths and fantasy: Arianna Fioratti Loreto’s fantastic bestiary

ANTON SOKOLOV TRAUMA

Anton Sokolov does not simply create jewellery. His pieces are fragments of history, tangible evidence of a conflict that devastated his homeland, Ukraine.
Bullet shells, missile shrapnel, brass, glass and silver are transformed, under his hands, into rings, pendants, brooches and bracelets. Each creation is engraved with a number: the exact day of the war when the material was recovered.

His brand name, TRAUMART, is a powerful play on words: it combines TRAUMA, ART and TRAUM (which means ‘dream’ in German). And it is precisely this that Sokolov narrates with his jewellery: the pain of war, but also the hope for a better future. It is not just goldsmith’s art, it is memory, resilience, transformation.

ANTON SOKOLOV: FROM DENTIST TO ARTIST IN THE RUBBLE OF WAR

ANTON SOKOLOV TRAUMA

Born in 1983 in Kharkiv, when Ukraine was still part of the USSR, Anton grew up among precious metals: his father is a goldsmith. Yet, he decided to follow his mother’s career, graduating in dentistry and opening a clinic. However, his passion for jewellery never leaves him. In 2015, after the death of his mother, he melts a silver chain to create a pendant: his first piece of jewellery.

The war comes on 24 February 2022.
Anton and his future wife Nastya dedicate themselves to volunteer work, distributing aid and medicine. They marry in April of that year, with a wedding that goes around the world: two volunteer doctors in the ruins of their city.
Then, the drama. Anton is seriously injured in a missile attack. Forced to seek treatment in Germany, he takes with him the necessary equipment to create jewellery.
In Munich he discovers the Munich Jewelry Week and decides to change his life: no more dentistry, only goldsmithing.

In 2023 he took part in the Milan Jewellery Week, where he met Silvia Bianchi, goldsmith and gallery owner.
A year later, he returned to Italy to receive the Best Jewellery Art and Craft award and now, thanks to Silvia, he is ready to display his creations in an exhibition of his own.
