After Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei e Singapore, the prestigious French label Louis Vuitton inaugurated a cultural space in Venice. In an exceptional location, just a few steps from Saint Mark’s Square on the top floor of the Maison Louis Vuitton Venice.  Now Pompeo Molmenti’s La morte di Otello (Death of Othello, 1866) will be shown next to the audio-visual installation of New York artist Tony Oursler (1957): Stawberry-Ecstasy-Green, in an exhibition running to 24th November. The initiative will be the first event in a programme that aims to offer comparisons between contemporary production and works of art from the past, made possible thanks also ti the partnership with the Fondazione Musei Civici Veneziani.
This initiative is interesting because it brings to its former glory, after extensive restoration, a great masterpiece of Molmenti, but also because it compares a work of art of the past with a contemporary artwork. This operation is not trivial, and that to be useful must be treated with care. It seems to me that the objective has been attained and admire a work of the past that inspires and offers insight to a work of today is exciting. I can not wait to see the next scheduled prosposte the Maison Louis Vuitton in Venice.

Dopo Parigi, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei e Singapore, la prestigiosa griffe francese Louis Vuitton ha inaugurato anche a Venezia il suo spazio culturale. Location d’eccezione, a pochi passi da Piazza San Marco, l’ultimo piano della Maison  Louis Vuitton Venezia. L’opera, La morte di Otello (1866) di Pompeo Molmenti, fino al 24 novembre è esposta in dialogo con l’installazione audiovisiva dell’artista newyorkese Tony Oursler (1957): Stawberry-Ecstasy-Green. L’iniziativa sarà la prima di un programma che mira a confrontare la produzione contemporanea  con opere d’arte del passato grazie alla partnership con la Fondazione Musei Civici Veneziani. Questa iniziativa è sicuramente interessante perchè riporta agli antici splendori, dopo un impegnativo restauro, un grande capolavoro di Molmenti, ma soprattutto perchè propone un confronto tra un’opera d’arte del passato con un’opera d’arte contemporanea. Operazione non banale e che per essere efficace deve essere curata con attenzione. Mi sembra che l’obiettivo sia stato raggiunto e ammirare un’opera del passato che ispira e offre spunti di riflessione ad un’opera di oggi è entusiasmante. Non vedo l’ora di vedere le prossime prosposte in programma della Maison Louis Vuitton di Venezia.
