Triennale Milano. La Triennale di Milano is housed in the Palazzo dell’Arte, which was built by Giovanni Muzio between 1931 and 1933, in order to give Milan a standing site for International exhibitions of Decorative arts, which is held every three years.

The Triennial Exhibitions which began tooking place in 1923 in Monza’s Villa Reale, were moved to la Triennale di Milano.
The exhibitions could enlarge their fields of interest also to architecture and became one of the most important points of reference for the reflections on the Italian architecture.

Inside the Triennale there is the Triennale Design Museum, the first Design Museum created in Italy.
It opened for the first time in 1997, and reopened in 2007. It hosts the objects that made history of Italian Design.

The Triennale Design Museum doesn’t exhibit the objects from a chronological point of view, but the display changes every year, in order to suggest different studies on design and its relationship with everyday life.

Among the objects hosted in the Design Museum, stand out the 1951 Vespa 125 Piaggio designed by Corradino d’Ascanio; the sack armchair (poltrona sacco) by Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro; the Olivetti type-writer Valentine by Ettore Sottsass, and other historic objects.

You can also visit exhibitions devoted to social and economic problems, mounting displays of architecture, fashion, design, visual arts and industrial production.
