VENICE BIENNALE: HOW TO VISIT IT

Every two years Venice becomes the world centre of contemporary art.
This year the Venice Biennale (the 57th International Art Exhibition of Venice) will run from May 13th to November 26th 2017, and the theme chosen by the curator Christine Macel is VIVA ARTE VIVA.

The exhibition doesn’t develop a topic, but it consists of a series of pavilions, which bring artists of different generations and origins together, which follow like chapters of a book.
In this post you’ll find the opening times, all about Venice Biennale tickets and how to visit it.

For those who arrive at Venice Marco Polo airport every 30 minutes ATVO shuttles and bus line 5 leave headed for the Piazzale Roma. From here you can take vaporetto (ferry boat) lines 51, 52, 61, 82, 41, 42 and get off at the Giardini Biennale stop.

  1. Is the 48 hour ticket literally 48 hours, thereby, a two day ticket ? (Two days of 7 hours) Or is it 48hour of times the two venues are open: making it a more than 2 day ticket?

    • 48h tickets are valid for 48 hours since their first validation (closing days excluded) entitling to multiple visits to each exhibition venue (Giardini and Arsenale).

    • Mark Bradford’s exhibit is at Giardini, because the United States Pavillion “Tomorrow Is Another Day” is only at Giardini.
But Mark Bradford sponsored a shop of a cooperative that works with a small prison on Giudecca island.
The shop is in Rialto Bridge and he designed a limited-edition Mark Bradford bag to sell during the Biennale.

  2. I’d like to go over two days, but it doesn’t have to be two days in a row (ie. 48 hour pass). Am I correct in understanding that the full regular ticket (also on different or non-consecutive days) means I can go to the venue on one day, ie. a Wednesday, then go again two days later, ie. on a Friday, with the same ticket? Thanks

    • To enter the Biennial on different days it is better to buy the regular ticket.
You can only enter the Gardens and the Arsenal once, but on different days. So you can go to the Gardens on Wednesdays and then on Friday at the Arsenal for example.

    • Near the Arsenal and the Gardens there are plenty of places, but it depends on the budget.
I recommend looking for a place near St. Mark’s Square or near the Gardens. From there you can easily reach the Biennale.
