“The marriage portrait of Charlotte de Rothschild” is a painting by Moritz Daniel Oppenheim (1800-1882), who is considered to be the first Jewish painter of the modern era.
His work drew inspiration from his Jewish culture and religious roots, but, unlike his fellow artists, Oppenheim decided to use a more modern style of painting.
Oppenheim received his first lessons in painting from Conrad Westermayr, than he entered the Munich Academy of Arts.
Later, he went to Paris and then to Rome to complete his artistic training.
Once he came back to Germany, he settled in Frankfurt, where he started a successful career.
