WHERE TO GO ON MAY 1ST: 5 CITIES TO VISIT

Elegant, full of history and of extraordinary beauty, here are the places where to go on May 1st.
I chose five places which are as good as large capital cities of Europe and which have a special artistic charm.

If you’re planning a holiday for the long weekend of May 1styou can take a look at the destinations of my personal to-do list that I share here on my blog 🙂

Where to go on May 1st: 5 cities to visit

Avignone

Avignone

1 – AVIGNON (FRANCE)

Avignon is the symbol of the Middle Ages in France.
Here there’s the Papal Palace, which was the papal residence in the 14thcentury, and is the largest Gothic building in the world.
If your destination is France, here iswhere to go on May 1st, where, besides, you may visit the surroundings where you can enjoy the typical landscapes of Provence and its colours.

Cinque terre

Cinque terre – Monterosso al Mare

2 – THE CINQUE TERRE (ITALY)

Mild climate, breathtaking landscapes and some of Italy’s most beautiful villages.
The Cinque Terre is a perfect destination for the long weekend of May 1st.
The colours of the sea and surrounding nature will leave you breathless, but for culture lovers there’s a place you must visit: the Literary Park Eugenio Montale in Monterosso al Mare.
Here there’s the poet’s home that Montale himself called “the ochre pagoda”. It was his summer residence.

Palazzo di Cnosso | Creta

3 – CRETA (GREECE)

If the Greek islands are the summer holiday destination par excellence, Crete is the island to visit in spring.
It’s not only a place to visit for its golden beaches and limpid sea but also for its unique archeological sites.
In Crete you must see the Palace of Knossos and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, where you can discover the history of the island following a tour throughartefactsand artworks.

Alcazar | Siviglia

4 – SEVILLE (SPAIN)

Where to go on May 1stto discover Spain?
It’s simple, to Andalusia and in particular to Seville.
The city of flamenco is verycolourfuland in spring ismarvellous. You can’t miss the Museum of Fine Arts of Seville, among the most important museums of Spain, and especially the Alcazar, a Moorish palace of the 14thcentury whose great beauty fascinates everyone.
It seems that in this place Christopher Columbus began planning his voyages to the Americas.

Castello Miramare 8

Il Castello di Miramare a Trieste

5 – Trieste (ITALY)

Trieste is a borderline city, and therefore many cultures coexist among its palaces and its streets (don’t miss the chance to make a trip to the Val Rosandra, a nature reserve near the border with Slovenia).
But if you ask me where to go on May 1stin Trieste, I have no doubts: the Miramare Castle.
Overlooking the Gulf of Trieste and surrounded by a green park, the Castle was the residence of Maximilian of Habsburg.
