MICHELANGELO’S WORKS IN ITALY
David- Accademia Gallery, Florence.
At first it was placed in Piazza della Signoria in Florence, where is now a copy, and the original statue is on display in the Accademia Gallery of Florence.
Michelangelo’s David is considered, since its first appearance, a perfect example of male beauty, the symbol of the Renaissance and the Italian art.

The Doni Tondo (or Doni Madonna) – Uffizi Gallery, Florence
Commissioned by the wealthy banker Agnolo Doni, this is a masterpiece where the figures looks like sculptures, thecoloursare gaudy and the twisting of the bodies will inspire future generations of artists, up to nowadays.
To Michelangelo the best painting was that similar to sculpture, there’s no doubt about it!
The Rondanini Pietà – Museum of the Rondanini Pietà of the Sforza Castle, Milan
This is Michelangelo’s last sculpture and is considered his spiritual testament.
The sculpture was located in Michelangelo’s house in Rome and after some transfers of property arrived in Milan, where is currently housed.

MICHELANGELO’S WORKS IN VATICAN CITY
The Pietà – St. Peter’s Basilica
It’s the first sculpture created in Rome by Michelangelo, who at that time was in his early 20s (1497-1499).
This is the only work where his signature is visible, carved on the sash running across Mary’s chest.
The Sistine Chapel and The Last Judgement – Vatican Museums, Vatican City
In 1508 Michelangelo was commissioned to paint the frescoes for the Sistine Chapel. It was a big challenge and the work was exhausting for him, who had to bend on a scaffold, always unsatisfied with the result and annoyed by the delay in payment from the Pope. Some years later he completed the work by painting the Last Judgement.

MICHELANGELO’S WORK AROUND THE WORLD
Prisoners – Louvre Museum, Paris
The number of Michelangelo’s unfinished statues is so great that it has been suggested that it was not only due to a lack of time, but it was a strong desire of the artist.
The “Prisoners” housed in the Louvre Museum is the most beautiful example of Michelangelo’s “non-finito” (“not-finished”).
