JOHN WILLIAM GODWARD’S PAINTINGS
John William Godward’s paintings. John William Godward (1861-1922) was a very popular English painter, but his style fell out of favour with the arrival of the 19th – century avant-gardes.
Therefore, in a short time, he was forgotten. Maybe, for this reason, he committed suicide at the age of 61.

John William Godward, An Offering to Venus (1912).
His style of painting is characterized by a deep love for classical civilizations, and women in John William Godward’s paintings are always depicted in classical dress, or posed as Greek and Roman statues.
Also the background is a typical classical landscape, made up of architectural elements and details meticulously painted.
However, I’d rather prefer to show you John William Godward’s paintings, than describe them.
