Inauguro oggi una nuova rubrica “chi, cosa, dove – www.”.
Un percorso per conoscere un’artista, una sua opera e il luogo in cui poterla ammirare.
Oggi inizio col parlarvi di Jasper Jones.
Jasper Johns ha realizzato dipinti di oggetti comuni e simboli come ad esempio bandiere, le mappe, i numeri e l’alfabeto. Era interessato a come il loro significato cambia quando sono isolati dal loro ruolo abituale o dal loro luogo. Qui, Johns ha trasformato il modo in cui siamo abituati a vedere una bandiera. Invece di dipingere l’immagine di una bandiera che sventola da un palo e soffia nel vento, ma la rappresenta su tre tele di diverse dimensioni. Mostrando la bandiera in questo modo, Johns ci chiede di guardare in modo nuovo un oggetto quotidiano e di mettere in discussione ciò che vediamo.

Today I start to talk with Jasper Jones.
Jasper Johns has made paintings of ordinary objects and symbols such as flags, maps, numbers, and the alphabet. He was interested in how their meaning might change when they are taken out of their usual role or place. Here, Johns transformed the way we usually see a flag. Instead of painting a picture of a flag flying from a pole and blowing in the breeze, the flat pattern of stars and stripes is portrayed on three different-sized canvases. By showing the flag in this way, Johns asks us to take a new look at an everyday object and to question what we see.
