Antonio Canova
Antonio Canova (1 November 1757 – 13 October 1822) was an Italian sculptor from the Republic of Venicewho became famous for his marble sculptures that delicately rendered nude flesh. Antonio Canova was born in Possagno, a village of the Republic of Venicesituated amid the recesses of the hills of Asolo, but became famous throughout Europe. The epitome of the neoclassical style, his work marked a return to classical refinement after the theatrical excesses of Baroque sculpture. His works are exhibited in many museums, but in my opinion the most interesting collection is located in his hometown. I recommend that you schedule a visit to the Museum of Canova in Possagno.
